WASHINGTON LAUNCHES 2ND ANNUAL DC ENTREPRENEURSHIP WEEK
DCEW Speakers Include Mayor Vincent Gray, Ted Leonsis, Carl Schramm and a Special Performance by Musical Talent Cobra Starship
WASHINGTON, D.C – (November 10) Washington, D.C. is about to get a taste of its second annual D.C. Entrepreneurship Week (DCEW); a five- day interactive symposium that focuses on revitalizing and strengthening local entrepreneurship with the D.C. Government’s Planning & Economic Development Office occurring in conjunction with Global Entrepreneurship Week. Designed for entrepreneurs by entrepreneurs, DCEW was created by young local leadership; a region that boasts the 5th highest concentration of entrepreneurs in the United States (Grasshopper Group, July 2010).
Progress Through Business, Cooley LLP, DLA Piper, and other D.C. partners will present the second annual D.C. Entrepreneur WeekNovember 14th -18th 2011, at various venues throughout downtown Washington, D.C. Founded with the entrepreneur in mind, DCEW co-founders, Charles Paret and Peter Stuart, have built a golden opportunity for up and coming leaders around the D.C. area to thrive through a series of panel discussions, roundtables, forums and educational opportunities. Registrants will gain valuable knowledge and learn from each other and industry innovators to help navigate the course from start-up to empire.
The week aims to build relationships and develop ideas to strengthen the local entrepreneurship culture while answer pressing ‘real-world’ questions in an intimate setting from the business savvy who have already made their mark. Attendees will walk away with hands on knowledge and industry specific resources to enable them to grow their own opportunities.
Through a series of panel discussions, pitch sessions, roundtables and forums, registrants will gain a mass of access to like-minded people in the field. Attendees will take part in an impressive kick-off event at Georgetown University Monday, November 14, at 5 p.m. that includes Mayor Vincent Gray, Carl Schramm, President, Kauffman Foundation and Co-Chair, Startup America Partnership and panelists, Timothy Keenan, President & Chairman of High Performance Technologies, Alyssa Lovegrove , CEO and Founder of New Venture Mentors, David Ross, Janssen Healthcare Innovation group, Susan Wilson, CEO and Founder of FundHer monitored by Jeff Reid, director of entrepreneurship and real estate finance initiatives at Georgetown University.
Attendees will have the opportunity to personally pitch their business plans in Pitch-A-VC roundtables, while also networking with like-minded entrepreneurs and avid investors. Investors include Fortify.VC, Novak Biddle Venture Partners, GroTech Ventures, Amplifier Ventures, TDF, CIT, Enhanced Capital Partners, Updata Capital Partners, Brown Savano, New Atlantic Ventures, Spring Capital, Core Capital and Arborview Capital representing billions of dollars in Assets Under Management (AUM).
DCEW will focus on various areas of industry and demographic groups such as Digital & Mobile Media, IT, Real Estate, Communications, Social Entrepreneurship, and Green & Clean Tech Startups’, just to name a few. Paxton Stuart LLC and other D.C. partners will present the first annual D.C. Entrepreneur Week November 15th -19th 2010, at various venues throughout downtown Washington, DC. Founded with the entrepreneur in mind, creator Charles Paxton Paret, an entrepreneur himself, has built a golden opportunity for up and coming leaders around the D.C. area to thrive.
The week aims to connect students, business leaders, and entrepreneurs to create opportunity, gain knowledge, build relationships, and develop ideas in order to strengthen the local entrepreneurship culture. The multi-faceted symposium aims to answer pressing ‘real-world’ questions in an intimate setting from the business saavy who have already made their mark. Attendees will walk away with hands on knowledge and industry specific resources to enable them to grow their own opportunities.
Through a series of panel discussions, roundtables and forums, registrants will gain valuable knowledge and learn from each other and industry innovators to help navigate the course from start-up to empire. Registrants can expect to hear from leaders such as entrepreneur extraordinaire Ken Langone, AOL’s Ted Leonsis, Living Social CEO, Tim O’ Tim O’Shaughnessy, Elutions CEO Bill Doucas, Carlyle Group’s, Mark J. Johnson, First Savings CEO Larry Pratt and Opus 8 CEO, Tien Wong. Attendees will also have the opportunity to personally pitch their business plans in a two hour Pitch-A-VC roundtable, while also networking with like-minded entrepreneurs and avid investors. Local investors, such as Grant Allen, VP at Core Capital Partners, a $350 million dollar VC firm headquartered in the District will give participants real time input on their business.

In addition to content-based events, attendees have the opportunity to network in DCEW’s Entrepreneur Lounge, located at 1503 Connecticut Ave NW, and at a series of social functions throughout the week, so that entrepreneurs can build relationships, leverage resources, and create opportunities.
The kick-off event will be launched on Monday, November 15th at 4P.M. at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business. The forum, Unleashing New Ideas, features a keynote lecture by Ken Langone, co-founder of The Home Depot and former director of the New York Stock Exchange. Additionally, a panel discussion called Making a Difference Through Entrepreneurship will follow that includes; Bill Doucas, chairman and CEO of Elutions; Ted Leonsis, founder and CEO of Monumental Sports & Entertainment and Vice Chairman of AOL; and Tim O’Shaughnessy, founder and CEO of LivingSocial with a reception to follow.
